A cornerstone of Seattle’s industrial landscape, Seattle Iron & Metals is refreshing its office environment to better serve both its team and its future. When opening their new office on the Duwamish Canal back in 2001, Bumgardner did the initial tenant improvement work for several buildings, including the 1920’s Art-Deco, concrete office building. Now, nearly 25 years later, we were given the opportunity to refresh the office space, blending a brighter, contemporary aesthetic with the charm and the thoughtful design of the original renovation.
The office building houses both the primary administrative offices, as well as locker and shower rooms, storage spaces, and access hallways that service the industrial workings of the metal yard. These interior spaces are undergoing significant upgrades, including new lighting, updated flooring, and modern furnishings throughout. The reception area will feature a custom-designed desk with a solid surface countertop and a front façade clad in porcelain tile. Perforated metal panels will frame the desk on either side, positioned beneath the existing security screens. Improvements to the back-of-house areas seek to balance sleek, modern finishes with the resilience required in a heavy-duty industrial setting.
With design finalized and construction documents prepared, construction is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
